Professional Learning

We offer a variety of computer science professional learning courses for current Virginia public school K-12 educators and other interested public school education professionals at no cost. We focus on deep content knowledge and CS teaching strategies delivered in innovative and useful ways. Our professional learning courses use our own internally developed curriculum and curriculum from outside partners. Computer science may be new to some schools, but to us it’s an established learning tool.

Code VA believes that “teachers supporting teachers” is the best way to prepare Virginia’s classrooms to teach computer science. In service of this, we aim to foster teacher communities of practice in every course. Our facilitator faculty members are current classroom teachers from Virginia school districts. They know that Virginia educators are excellent at what they do and respect their practice and professionalism.

Our professional learning courses take a practicum approach by allowing teachers to participate in our professional learning community during the school year and reach out to our facilitators anytime for support as they begin to use what they’ve learned in their schools and classrooms.
